We had such great feedback about the SEWN mini quilt swap that we did in the spring, that we thought we would do another one. We will be swapping with the San Diego Modern Quilt Guild and the Austin Modern Quilt guild.
Here’s the details!
Timeline:
- December: Complete the online individual sign-up form by December 15, 2025. The link is below.
- January: Your mini-quilt partner will be announced in January.
- February & March: design and sew your mini.
- April: Mini-quilt due to your guild by the April meeting, then each guild will mail two packages, one to each of the other guilds on or before April 30, 2026.
Prompt:
The design challenge is transparency. Transparency in quilts refers to the technique of creating the illusion of see-through layers by using overlapping colors and fabrics. This effect can add depth and dimension to quilt designs, making them appear more luminous and dynamic. Finished quilts should be between 12×12″ and 24×24″.
Matching:
Partners will be matched on a 1:1 basis based on self-professed skill level.
- Beginner: new to quilting, just learning the basics
- Advanced Beginner: new-ish to quilting, has got the basics down and is ready to learn more
- Intermediate: has a fair amount of experience, has tried several techniques and is confident attempting new ones
- Expert: has quite a bit of quilting experience, there aren’t a lot of techniques they haven’t tried, could confidently teach others how to piece and quilt
